Are you in the process of planning an RV trip? If you are and if this is your first time doing so, you may be looking for some guidance. After all, traveling by RV for the first time can be fun and exciting, but it can also be worrisome at the same time. For that reason, five helpful tips, which are ideal for first time motor home travelers, are outlined below.
1 – Map Out Your Route Ahead of Time
Deciding where you want to travel to by RV is an important component of doing so. Of course, you have the ability to change your mind or make side trips along the way, but you should always have an idea of where you will be going. This is important for a number of different reasons, including overall satisfaction and safety.
2 – Research Activities and Attractions Along the Way
In conjunction with the above mentioned tip of mapping out your intended travel route, doing so enables you to research activities and attractions that are located along the way. When traveling by RV, half of the fun is all of the stops that you are able to make. Of course, you can be spontaneous, but having an idea of exactly what you can do and see while traveling by RV is ideal for safety, as well as making sure that you don’t miss out on any great opportunities.
When it comes to researching activities and attractions that are along your way, the internet is a great place to start. If you are taking steps now to prepare for an RV trip that isn’t set to happen for another month or so, you may want to request free vacation guides. These guides are easy to find online.
3 – Make Sure Your RV Is Stocked Full of Activities
Making sure your RV is stocked full of fun activities is another great tip that beginners should implement. If your upcoming motor home adventure is an extended one, you may spend a good percentage of your time on the road. Of course, looking out the window to sightsee is a nice, enjoyable activity, but it may not hold your interest for long. That is why fun activities should be examined. These activities may include movies, using a laptop computer, playing handheld electronic games, reading, or enjoying another fun hobby, such as knitting.
All RV travelers are encouraged to make sure that they have fun activities for the road, but it is extremely important for parents to do so. There is nothing worse than being stuck on an RV with unhappy children.
4 – Pack for Your Trip Ahead of Time
All first time RV travelers are encouraged to start packing early. In fact, the earlier the better. Many supplies, such as food and travel size toiletries can be packed or put in an RV without disrupting your current daily needs.
To help ensure that your next RV trip is fun, as opposed to one that is filled with complications, create an RV trip checklist. This checklist should include specific items that you would like to bring, such as clothing, food, drinks, eating utensils, towels, wash clothes, and so forth. To help get you started, many websites have free printable camping checklists, which can serve as great guides. Be sure to check off items from your list when you pack them in your bags or place them on your motor home.
5 – Always Keep Safety in Mind
As with any recreational activity, it is important to remember that there are some risks associated with traveling by RV, especially in areas that you are unfamiliar with. For that reason, a number of steps should be taken to protect your safety. Be sure to leave an itinerary with someone that you know and trust, always be aware of your surroundings, always keep a cell phone nearby, and be sure to have a fully stocked first aid kit.
The first time you set out on the open road in your RV, you have no idea what’s in store. An adventure unfolds before you, a lifestyle forms around you and suddenly you’re hooked. But RV camping isn’t just about having fun, it’s also about change and adaptation. Before you buy that RV, find out the 5 ways RV camping changes you.
1. YOU GET CLOSER TO PEOPLE
Sure, you’ll get closer to the people in your RV, geographically if nothing else. But we are talking big picture. When you travel across the country, you’ll meet people from all walks of life, from all backgrounds and from all places. What you’ll learn is that no matter how you may differ from someone in appearance, background or beliefs, we’re all human at the core and we’re all just doing the best we can. The RV lifestyle gets you closer to people.
2. YOU REALIZE TIME IS PRECIOUS
They say time flies when you’re having fun, and it’s the truth! Time slips past on RV vacations, and suddenly our laughter, joy and fun become fond memories. In our busy world it’s hard to slow down, but when you’re RV camping you can just stop for a moment and take life in. It’s then that you realize time is a precious.
3.YOUR LEARN WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU
Have you ever thought about what you’d take from your house if you could only pack a suitcase? RV camping poses that kind of scenario. You don’t have much space to bring along everything you own, just everything you need. Without all those possessions weighing you down, you’re free to live uninhibited. When you have to strategically choose what you bring, you have a chance to learn what’s really important to you.
4. YOU FIND NEW WAYS TO DO THINGS
RV camping is a community. You’ll learn all kinds of things, whether it’s small like learning to make popcorn over the campfire, or whether it’s big, like learning how to fix your RV’s plumbing. Along your travels you’ll learn a little something from each person you meet. Soon you’ll have an entire repertoire of knowledge that came from people all over the country and the world.
5. COOKING BECOMES AN ART
In a house, you have plenty of place to store food. You can buy plenty of groceries, spices, dry goods and snacks. When you’re camping, you have to work with limited space, both for storage and for cooking. The end result? You learn to make amazing meals on campfires, with limited ingredients and using what you have on hand. It makes you more resourceful and the benefit is that you get delicious meals. Keep learning, friends! And keep making delicious art.
What have you learned on the road?
In the Sunshine State, February and March mean one thing: Strawberry Season. We love those bright red berries so much we have festivals, parties, socials and dances in their honor. We eat them on waffles, pancakes, shortcake, pudding, pies and donuts. There isn’t much we won’t drop some fresh Florida strawberries on.
At Newby Fun Resorts, we decided to make the fun of strawberry season even sweeter. Many years ago we held a strawberry social in one of our communities and it’s been a tradition ever since! We start out with a delicious shortcake, top that with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream, drop in a heaping spoonful of strawberries, and finish the whole creation off with a huge dollop of whipped cream.
Our strawberry socials are a time for the residents to get together, enjoy each other’s company and have a delicious treat. We believe RV camping and life should be a fun! Next time you’re looking for an RV camping destination ask yourself the question: ARE THEY FUN!? If the answer is no, don’t go!
We can’t wait to have a blast with you at one of our nine Newby Fun Resorts. Want daily laughs, inspirations and tips about where to have some Florida fun? All RV campers need to visit Newby Fun Resorts on Facebook. See you there!
