7 Fun Ways to Have a Green RV Thanksgiving

On the road for Thanksgiving? We know that RVs aren't the most gas-friendly vehicles, so we came up with some great ideas to help you go green. It will save you money and the environment will be extra thankful you did your part. Here are our 5 ideas to go green while RV camping.

1. RECYCLE ALL THE THINGS!

Finish off an entire carton of butter? Recycle that container! Secretly made boxed mashed potatoes? Hide that box in the recycling bin. Soda lovers? Grab those cans! A few minutes of thought will go a long way to keeping you green this holiday season. Put a smaller trash bag in your RV or outside to collect cardboard, bottles, cans and other recyclables. Many RV communities have recycling centers, pick-up, or recycling drop-offs nearby.

2. BUY LOCAL, YA'LL!
Before you head to the local supermarket to get your Thanksgiving supplies, check out the farmer's markets. It's a great way to support local, plus you'll be saving some money! Enjoy the nice weather and head out to a market to pick up a few pumpkins for your table display, some apples for your pie and lots of fresh fruit and veggies for all the turkey day fixins.

3. CAMPFIRE EVERYTHING!
One of the great parts about camping is cooking over an open fire. In fact, we encouraged some awesome campfire recipes  to help save you space in your kitchen while you prepare your Thanksgiving meal in an RV. Not only is cooking over the fire delicious and fun, it's also green!

4. LEFTOVERS? YES, PLEASE!
Who doesn't love Thanksgiving leftovers? But with a small RV fridge, keeping all those leftovers might not make sense! Have your guests bring some containers with them so they can enjoy the bounty for days to come! Or you can host an after Thanksgiving party where everyone made new creations with their leftovers, like casseroles and more! Yum!

5. ROCK, SCISSORS...PAPER?
Paper plates can seem like an awesome idea on a busy Thanksgiving. If you're hosting Thanksgiving in your RV, make it a BYOP party! Set out a washing station for after dinner and have everyone bring their own plate and wash it up when they are done. It will save one person the trouble of having a HUGE mess and it will save the landfill from a lot of paper plates. Plus you can make the argument that paper plates hold much less food than regular ones!

6. COOK IT. COOK IT REAL SLOW!

There are so many benefits here! All RV campers should have a slow cooker. It's considered one of the most energy-efficient appliances in the kitchen. You can put a delicious side or even main dish in there ahead of time and leave it to cook. You'll not only save time, but also energy. It's a win, win. Check out Taste of Home for an awesome list of Thanksgiving slow cooker dishes

7. KEEP IT SIMPLE

Okay, so every year we want to create this picture-perfect Thanksgiving. It includes all the right foods and decorations. Even cranberry sauce. Here's the deal though, lots of people don't like cranberry sauce. So that' perfectly prepared and served dish is wasted. Don't waste, man. Replace dishes that people normally don't eat with something new and unique. You'll be the talk of the town!
